Dr. Alexa Canady to Deliver Roosevelt University Commencement Speech

Alexa Canady, MD, the first female African American neurosurgeon in the United States, will deliver the commencement address at Roosevelt University in Chicago, according to a report from eNews Park Forest.

Dr. Canady served on the faculty of Wayne State University School of Medicine in the department of neurosurgery from 1985 to 2001 and was awarded an endowed chair position in 1998. She also served as chief of neurosurgery at Children's Hospital of Michigan. She is currently a pediatric neurosurgeon at Sacred Heart Medical Group in Pensacola, Fla., and has a special interest in congenital spine abnormalities and spine tumors, among other areas.
