FDA to Investigate Rising Rate of Failed Robotic Surgeries

The amount of failed robotic surgeries has tripled from 2008 to 2012 and the FDA intends to investigate and determine the cause, according to a Kaiser Health News report. Robotic surgery remains an issue fraught with controversy, with experts weighing in for and against robotic guidance.

The FDA investigation will seek to determine if the rising failure rate is due to surgeon error, robotic malfunction, lack of training or the FDA clearance process.
