Researchers Find Magnetic Rods Help in the Treatment of Scoliosis

Spine

A magnetically controlled growing rod inserted along the spine has been found to correct scoliosis in several children patients in Hong Kong, according to a Med Page Today report. Researchers who planted the magnetic rods and monitored the two patients found that the mean degree of scoliosis improved by nearly 40 degrees over the course of two years for both patients, along with spine length and wingspan increases.

Magnetically controlled growing rods have not yet been approved for use in the U.S.
