Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Ernesto Otero-Lopez of New Mexico Orthopaedics

Ernesto Otero-Lopez, MD, is a fellowship trained, board-eligible neurosurgeon at New Mexico Orthopaedics.

Dr. Otero-Lopez specializes in spine surgery. He chose the specialty because of his admiration for physiology and the mechanics of the human body. He finds enjoyment in researching the causes of back pain, he said.

 

His career started after he earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico Science Campus, where he also had his internship and residency. His training continued when he had a fellowship in spine surgery at the Texas Back Institute in Plano.

 

Today, Dr. Otero-Lopez is affiliated with Presbyterian Hospital and the Lovelace Medical Center.

 

Dr. Otero-Lopez is affiliated with several professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
