Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Rick Placide of OrthoVirginia

Rick Placide, MD, is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon at OrthoVirginia.

Dr. Placide began his career as a physical therapist at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center before he earned his doctorate from the Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, and followed it up with a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, in Ohio.

 

After joining OrthoVirginia in 2003, Dr. Placide began performing complex spinal surgery with his medical team assisting him. His career specialties include family medicine and internal medicine in addition to spine surgery.

 

Outside of his clinical practice, he holds a teaching appointment at the Medical College of Virginia, and is actively involved in research.

 

Dr. Placide is an active member of several professional organizations including the North American Spine Society and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
