Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Robert Galler of Maine Spine Surgery

Robert Galler, DO, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon who works for Maine Spine Surgery in the Mercy Hospital system in Portland, Maine.

Dr. Galler has been an associate professor of neurosurgery and orthopedics at Stony Brook Medicine, in New York since 2013. His primary interest has been in neuro trauma, and his elective practice is in general neurosurgery with an emphasis on complex spine disorders. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

 

After Dr. Galler obtained his medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed his residency at Northwell Health, formerly known as the North Shore-LIJ Health System, in New York. He had two fellowships in the field. One at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.

 

Dr. Galler was the director of the Spine Center at the Stony Brook Neurosciences Institute, where he oversaw research into spinal cord injury and biomechanics. He also has an interest in world health, and has traveled to Tanzania, Africa, on several locations to teach and participate in the development of neurosurgical practices.
