Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. John Dormans of Texas Children's Hospital

John Dormans, MD, FACS, is the chief of pediatric orthopedic surgery at Texas Children's Hospital. Prior to his position at Texas Children's, Dr. Dormans was the chief of orthopedic surgery at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

He specializes in pediatric spinal deformities, especially scoliosis. Dr. Dormans is also known for his limb-sparing surgery for bone cancer.

 

Former president of Scoliosis Research Society, Dr. Dormans is also a member of SICOT International, SICOT Foundation, World Orthopaedic Concern and Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. Dr. Dormans has trained 50 clinical fellows and 37 research fellows, and been invited to lecture in almost 50 countries.

 

After receiving his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Dr. Dormans completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Grand Rapids Michigan State University. He then completed a fellowship in clinical pediatric orthopedics at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
