Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Carlo Bellabarba of UW Medicine

Carlo Bellabarba, MD, is a spine surgeon specializing in both spine and trauma surgery. He is presently the director of the Spine ACE Program at Harborview Medical Center in Washington and is on the HMC Medical Staff Quality Assurance Committee as well as the Medical School Admissions Committee at the University of Washington.

Dr. Bellabarba is the spine section editor for the Journal of Orthopedic Trauma and has presented at various medical meetings. He is the author of several articles and book chapters. Additionally, he is a professor at the University of Washington in the orthopedics and neurosurgery departments.

 

He is the recipient of several awards including the 2010 Harborview C.A.R.E.S. Service Excellence Award. His memberships include American Medical Association, American Orthopedic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Washington State Orthopedic Association and Western Orthopedic Association among others.

 

Dr. Bellabarba earned his medical degree from McGinn University in Canada in 1992. He went on to complete a residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. He completed a fellowship in spine surgery from Northwestern Univeristy in Chicago as well as a fellowship in orthopedic trauma from Tampa General Hospital in Fla.
