Richard A. Hynes, MD, is president of Melbourne, Fla.-based The B.A.C.K. Center. He is the immediate past president of Melbourne-based Holmes Regional Medical Center's medical staff. He also previously served as chief of the department of surgery at HRMC. He is a fellow of the American College of Spine Surgeons and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also a member of the Scoliosis Research Society and American Medical Association.
Dr. Hynes focuses on cervical herniated discs, degenerative spinal disorders, head and neck disorder, lumbar degenerative disc disease, scoliosis and spinal fusion. He has published extensively in prestigious journals such as Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, The Spine Journal and Journal of Orthopaedic Techniques. He also instructs surgeons on new techniques, such as the oblique lumbar interbody fusion technique.
Dr. Hynes has served in the Unites States Army and has served as a director of TXEDAKA, a charity that helps low-income individuals gain access to the medical care they need.
Dr. Hynes earned his medical degree at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, previously known as Rutgers Medical School, in New Brunswick, N.J. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu and completed a spine surgery fellowship at Harvard University/Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
