Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Suken Shah of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children

Suken Shah, MD, is the division chief of the spine and scoliosis service and attending pediatric orthopedic surgeon in the department of orthopedics at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del. He is also the clinical fellowship director. He also serves as associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Dr. Shah focuses on adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, early-onset scoliosis, complex spinal deformities, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis as well as minimally invasive techniques. He was recently chosen for the ABC Traveling Fellowship along with Alpesh Patel, MD. The fellowship is sponsored by the American Orthopaedic Association. He has also previously won the Spinal Deformity Education Group Advancement Award.

 

Dr. Shah has had more than 45 research publications in peer-reviewed journals, written 17 book chapters and served as a section editor of Orthopaedic Knowledge Update — 9. He serves on the board of directors of the Scoliosis Research Society, where he is chair of the Growing Spine Committee and is the chair-elect of the Program Committee.

 

Dr. Shah earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital/Rothman Institute. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis surgery at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
