Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Craig Callewart of Texas Back Institute

Craig Callewart, MD, is a spine surgeon with Plano-based Texas Back Institute. He also provides care at Methodist Hospital for Surgery in Addison, Texas and Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, where he founded the spine center. He has served several sessions in the Texas State legislature. He is also the Dallas County Medical Society's legislative liaison to Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Callewart is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society. He focuses on treating chronic pain associated with spine injuries, scoliosis, cervical and lumbar fractures as well as developing advances in the treatment of complex spinal cases.

 

Dr. Callewart is board-certified and has had his research published in prestigious journals such as Spine and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has also contributed book chapters and appeared on television shows.

 

Dr. Callewart earned his medical degree at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at a teaching hospital of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He has also completed an orthopedic spine surgery fellowship at University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine.
