Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Fernando Techy of Rocky Mountain Associates

Fernando Techy, MD, is the director of research at Johnstown, Colo.-based Rocky Mountain Associates and the Orthopedic Stem Cell Institute, also in Johnstown. He also provides spine care at Denver-based University of Colorado Health. He previously served as an assistant professor of orthopedics and spine surgery at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Dr. Techy part of the faculty for AO Spine North America and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society. He has authored a number of articles published in peer-reviewed journals as well as multiple book chapters. He is also a reviewer for Medical Science Monitor.

 

Dr. Techy has a wide array of clinical interests including cervical and lumbar spinal stenosis, myelopathy, herniated discs, sciatica, spine fractures, degenerated discs, spine deformities, spine infections and tumors. He also has a professional interest in the use of stem cells in spine surgery, including stem cell injections into the intervertebral disc and large joints.

 

Dr. Techy earned his medical degree and completed one residency in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He completed a second residency at University of Illinois in Chicago and then a combined orthopedics and neurosurgery spine surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.
