Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Chris Meyer of Houston Orthopedic & Spine Hospital

Chris Meyer, MD, is a spine surgeon practicing at Houston Orthopedic & Spine Hospital in Bellaire, Texas. He is a past president of the Texas Spine Society, a diplomate of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as a member of the North American Spine Society and American Bureau for Medical Advancement in China.

Dr. Meyer's clinical interests include cervical fusion and disc replacement for treatment of disc disease, degenerative and rheumatoid arthritis, cervical trauma and reconstruction, as well as lumbar and thoracic decompression and fusion for degenerative conditions. He has a professional interest in new spinal techniques and instrumentation for minimally invasive fusions, and he was among the first surgeons in Houston to perform cervical and lumbar disc replacements.

 

Dr. Meyer also has an active interest in using stem cell therapy for regenerating tissue and has extensive experience harvesting adult stem cells during routine spine procedures to treat back pain. He has lectured and presented nationally as well as internationally.

 

Dr. Meyer earned his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He completed his residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center/New York Orthopedic Hospital and his spine fellowship at the Kenton D. Leatherman Spine Program in Louisville, Ky.
