Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Christopher Good of Virginia Spine Institute

Christopher R. Good, MD, is the director of scoliosis and spinal deformity, as well as director of research at Virginia Spine Institute in Reston. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society. Additionally, he serves on the medical executive committee of the Reston Hospital Center and the school health advisory committee of Fairfax County Public Schools.

Dr. Good focuses on all types of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine care, from acute conditions to degenerative conditions and complex revisions. He also has expertise in minimally invasive and motion-preserving surgery. He performed the first robot-guided surgery in the mid-Atlantic region and was one of the first physicians in Virginia to explore genetic counseling for adolescent scoliosis. He incorporates Scoliscore — a genetic prognostic test for adolescent scoliosis — to assist in predicting the risk of scoliosis curve progression.

 

Dr. Good is also involved in humanitarian causes. He serves as a volunteer surgeon for the Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine, an organization that provides spine care to underserved populations.

 

Dr. Good earned his medical degree at University of Rochester (N.Y.) School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He has also completed an adult and pediatric spinal surgery fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children's Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children, all located in St. Louis.
