Richard R.M. Francis, MD, MBA, founded Houston-based Spine Associates in 2003. He is an active member of North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society. His hospital affiliations include Houston Orthopedic & Spine Hospital, Westside Surgical Hospital in Houston and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, also in Houston.

Dr. Francis is a diplomat of the United Kingdom-based Intercollegiate Specialty Board in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons on Edinburgh. He has also previously served as an assistant professor with the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He has a professional interest in spinal disc replacement surgery, scoliosis correction and revision/reconstruction spine procedures.

"I knew what I wanted to do from my first exposure to spine surgery in medical school. What grabbed me was that you could take a child with a severe deformity and — within just a few hours — correct it to the point where it was almost normal," said Dr. Francis, according to the Spine Associates website.

Dr. Francis has been educated at the University of the West Indies at St. Augustine, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Scotland and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he was a postdoctoral fellow in spine surgery.
