Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Behrang Mazahery of Commonwealth Orthopaedics

Behrang T. Mazahery, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon providing care at Commonwealth Orthopaedics. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Society. His hospital affiliations include Inova Alexandria (Va.) Hospital, Inova Fairfax (Va.) Hospital and Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, also in Fairfax.

Dr. Mazahery's areas of subspecialization include spine surgery, trauma and general orthopedics. In particular, he has a professional interest in cervical disc replacement, cervical deformity correction, cervical corpectomy and laminoplasty. He also has expertise in motion sparing technology, minimally invasive techniques and deformity correction.

 

Dr. Mazahery has an active interest in clinical research and has received numerous research grants. He is also a participant in the American Orthopaedic Association's Emerging Leaders Program, which delivers a continuum of learning for developing orthopedic leaders in their 5th year of residency up through their 13th year of clinical practice.

 

Dr. Mazahery earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Northwestern University in Chicago. Additionally, he has completed a spine fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
