Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Amir Mehbod of Twin Cities Spine Center

Amir A. Mehbod, MD, is a staff surgeon at Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis as well as medical director, spine at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and chair of Abbott Northwestern's Neuroscience Institute. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Medical Association and Scoliosis Research Society. He also serves on the board of directors of the Foundation for Advancement of Spinal Knowledge.  

Dr. Mehbod has a professional interest in cervical, thoracic and lumbar deformities, such as scoliosis, degenerative spine, disc replacement, spine trauma, spine tumors and minimally invasive techniques. He has a won a number of prestigious awards, including the Louis A. Goldstein Award for best clinical poster presentation from the Scoliosis Research Society and the Edward McElfresh Award for best paper presentation at the Minnesota Orthopedic Society Meeting.

 

Dr. Mehbod is actively involved in research and has had his work published in peer-reviewed journals such as Spine, The Spine Journal and Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques.

 

Dr. Mehbod earned his medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. His has also completed spine fellowships at Twin Cities Spine Center and the University of Bordeaux in France.
