Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Robert Eastlack of Scripps Clinic

Robert Eastlack, MD, is a spine surgeon in San Diego with the Scripps Clinic division of orthopedic surgery. Dr. Eastlack specializes in treating cervical spine disorders, fractures, osteoporosis, scoliosis and herniated discs. He has a research interest in cervical spine injuries and minimally invasive surgeries and procedures.

Dr. Eastlack has received Jacqueline Perry Award from the Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Association and is a founding member of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. In addition, he is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.

He started his practice in 2006 and joined Scripps Clinic in 2008. Outside of his subspecialty, Dr. Eastlack has an interest in musculoskeletal trauma.

Dr. Eastlack was a fellow in spine surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and, before that, completed residency at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Dr. Eastlack is a former competitive swimmer and, according to a biography on Scripps Clinic's website, that athletic experience "gives him an in-depth understanding of the mindset and unique challenges of amateur and professional athletes." He brings a "patient-centered approach to medical decision making, which involves the people he cares for in a partnership of shared responsibility."
