Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Kenneth Pettine of The Spine Institute

Kenneth Pettine, MD, co-founded The Spine Institute in Johnstown, Colo., in 2004. He also co-founded Rocky Mountain Associates in Orthopedic Medicine in 1991 and The Society for Ambulatory Spine Surgery in 2011. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and International Spinal Injection Society.

Dr. Pettine has an active in spinal instrumentation, and he co-invented the U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved Prestige cervical artificial disc and Maverick Artificial Disc. He founded The Orthopedic Stem Cell Institute to ensure his patients have non-fusion surgical options. He has been the principal investigator for 15 FDA studies involving non-fusion implants, biologics and stem cells. He recently completed the first series of M6-C implants as part of the U.S. FDA clinical trial at Arete Surgical Center in Johnstown, Colo.

 

Dr. Pettine focuses his practice on spinal surgery, research and rehabilitation. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, such as Spine, Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery and Journal of Foot and Ankle.

 

Dr. Pettine earned his medical degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver. He completed his residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and his fellowship training at Institute for Low Back Care in Minneapolis.
