Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. James Bennett of Tulane University School of Medicine

James Bennett, MD, is the section chief of pediatric orthopedics at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He also serves as a professor of orthopedics and clinical professor of pediatrics at the school of medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and Scoliosis Research Society.

Dr. Bennett has a wide array of clinical interests, including scoliosis, spinal deformity, fluoro- and computer-enhanced surgical navigation in spine surgery and Ponsetti management of club foot deformity.  He has won numerous awards over the course of his career, including the Quarterback of the Year Award, presented by the New Orleans Saints for outstanding volunteer service. He was the first surgeon in Louisiana to introduce minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery in the treatment of scoliosis.

 

Dr. Bennett's work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, such as The American Journal of Orthopedics, Pediatrics and Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics. He is also involved in a number of community activities, and has been a physician volunteer in the Soboloff Clinic of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater New Orleans for a number of years.


 
Dr. Bennett earned his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and has completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta.
