Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. John Regan of Spine Group Beverly Hills

John Regan, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon practicing with Spine Group Beverly Hills (Calif.). He also provides care at Marina del Rey, Calif.-based DISC Sports & Spine Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Cervical Spine Research Society and Scoliosis Research Society.

Dr. Regan has had an illustrious career, having served as one of the key physicians and partner within Plano-based Texas Back Institute. He has also spent four years as director of the Los Angeles-based Cedars Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders. He was one of the first surgeons to use Video-Assisted Thoracic Spine Surgery, which involves the use of laparoscopic surgical instrument through a few small incisions.

 

Dr. Regan has given over 75 presentations at major medical meetings and institutes. He is the editor of the medical book "Atlas of Minimal Access Spine Surgery," has sold more than 20,000 copies worldwide. He has also published numerous research papers and authored over 100 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and textbooks.

 

Dr. Regan earned his medical degree at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has also completed two fellowships — one fellowship in spine trauma at A.O. International Hospital in Switzerland and another at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore.
