Spine Surgeon Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Jeffrey Fischgrund of William Beaumont Hospital

Jeffrey Fischgrund, MD, is the chief of orthopedic surgery at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., and health system chairman of orthopedic surgery. He also serves as a professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.

He was recently named the first Herkowitz Distinguished Chair in Orthopaedics, which includes funds to support the orthopedic department's implant retrieval analysis and database. He has also served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and fellowship director at William Beaumont Hospital.

 

Dr. Fischgrund began his career by joining the practice of Weissman, Gitlin, Herkowitz, MD, PC. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Fischgrund has written several scientific articles and textbook chapters on spine surgery and lectured on spinal trauma and reconstructive procedures. His research interests include bone morphogenetic proteins and cervical disc replacement.

 

Dr. Fischgrund is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Michigan Orthopaedic Society, Detroit Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Spine Study Group.

 

Dr. Fischgrund earned his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Washington, D.C., and completed his residency at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in orthopedic surgery. His additional training includes a spine fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital.
