Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Egon Doppenberg of NorthShore University HealthSystem

Egon Michael Doppenberg, MD, is vice chairman of the department of neurosurgery at Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem as well as a clinical assistant professor in neurological surgery the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He is a member of Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons and American Medical Association.

Dr. Doppenberg is board-certified and focuses on cervical and lumbar surgery, cervical artificial disc replacement, complex spine reconstruction, minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal fusion, stereotactic neurosurgery and radiosurgery as well as stereotactic radiosurgery of the spine. He has served as an investigator for several clinical trials and has authored numerous book chapters.

 

Dr. Doppenberg's work has been published in the Journal of Neurosurgery and Journal of Neurotrauma. He has been on a number of medical mission trips for the evaluation and treatment of pediatric neurosurgical patients in Guatemala, Honduras and British Guiana.

 

Dr. Doppenberg earned his medical degree from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and completed his neurosurgery residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He has also received neurosurgical oncology fellowship training in brain and spine tumors at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas in Houston.
