Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. John Caruso of Parkway Neuroscience & Spine Institute

John R. Caruso, MD, is a neurosurgeon with more than 16 years of experience. He practices with Parkway Neuroscience & Spine Institute in Hagerstown, Md., and is a leader at Parkway Surgery Center in Hagerstown. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and is co-founder of the "Save Our Doctors, Protect Our Patients" campaign, a grass roots public education campaign.

Dr. Caruso is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and focuses on minimally invasive surgery, complex instrumentation and lumbar spinal surgery. He is a board member of Blue Chip Surgical Partners, which helped develop Parkway Surgery Center. Dr. Caruso has also been a national spokesman for Doctors for Medical Liability Reform and has helped create legislation to reimburse physicians for trauma care delivery in Maryland.

 

Dr. Caruso earned his medical degree at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va. He completed a residency at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk and a residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
