Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Serena Hu of Stanford University School of Medicine

Serena Hu, MD, is chief of the spine service in the department of orthopedic surgery, at the Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine. She is also a professor of orthopedic surgery at Stanford University Medical Center. She previously provided care at University of California San Francisco Spine Center. She is a member of the North American Spine Society, International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and Scoliosis Research Society.

Dr. Hu has a professional interest in scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis, lumbar disc herniation, spinal trauma, flatback and reconstructive spine surgery, cervical myelopathy and disc replacement. She has a wide array of research interests including outcomes of spine surgery, decreasing complications of spine surgery, disc repair and regeneration and instability resulting from spine tumors. She has had her research published in peer-reviewed journals, such as Spine.

 

Dr. Hu earned her medical degree at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and completed her residency in orthopedic surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. She has also completed a fellowship in spine and scoliosis surgery at Rancho Los Amigos in Downey, Calif.
