Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Andrew Hecht of Mount Sinai Hospital

Andrew Hecht, MD, is the chief of spine surgery and director of the spine center in the Leni and Peter W. May Department of Orthopaedics at Mount Sinai Hospital. He founded the Newton-Wellesley Spine Center in Boston and previously served as its medical co-director. He also previously served as director of the spine surgery fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is a member of the North American Spine Society and Cervical Spine Research Society.

Dr. Hecht is the spine surgical consultant to the New York Jets, New York Islanders and New York Dragons professional teams as well as director of the NFL Spine Care Program for retired players at Mount Sinai. He also directs the acute spinal injury program for the New York Jets. He has also authored numerous articles and contributed to spine surgery textbooks.

 

Dr. Hecht's clinical interests include cervical and lumbar spine surgery, the evaluation and surgical management of degenerative disorders of the spine, minimally invasive spine surgery, microsurgery, spine trauma and tumors. He also has a wide array of research interests, including intervertebral disc biology. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

 

Dr. Hecht earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Program. Additionally, he has completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Emory Spine Center in Atlanta.
