Spine Specialist to Know: Dr. Fernando Techy of Illinois Bone and Joint Institute

Fernando Techy, MD, is a spine surgeon at the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute in Morton Grove. He is also an assistant professor of clinical orthopedics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Fernando Techy, spine surgeon at Illinois Bone and Joint Institute Dr. Techy has published extensive research on spine issues, including stabilization of the cervicothoracic junction, results of kyphoplasty, biomechanics of the cervical spine and thoraco-lumbar spine trauma. He received the best clinical fellow study award at the 2011 Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute Research day for his study on biomechanical stability of different fixation systems to supplement lumber interbody fusion.

Dr. Techy received his medical degree from the School of Medicine of the Pontifical Catholic University of Parana, Brazil, and he also completed an orthopedic surgery residency in Brazil. He completed a general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he was also an education chief resident for one year. Dr. Techy is fellowship-trained in spine surgery from The Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute's Center for Spine Health.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, AO Spine North America and North American Spine Society.
