Spine Specialist to Know: Dr. Krzysztof Siemionow of Illinois Bone & Joint Institute

Krzysztof Siemionow, MD, is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and practices at the Illinois Bone & Joint Institute in Morton Grove, Ill. He is also the director of clinical research at the University of Illinois Chicago, as well as an assistant professor in orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery. Dr. Siemionow is an active researcher, and as the co-principal investigator of a project to study the combined effects of osteoporosis and disc degeneration in lumbar spine. He has also participated in various spine device and lumbar spine procedure studies. He has also done extensive research on stem cell therapy for spine regeneration.

Dr. Siemionow has three pending patents, including one for guided oblique lumbar interbody fusion that is licensed to Mazor Surgical Technologies. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and AOSpine North America.

He received his medical degree from Karol Marcinkowski University in Poland. He then completed a six-year orthopedic surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and a one-year fellowship in adult and pediatric spine surgery at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Siemionow completed an internship fellowship in spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
