Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Gregory Przybylski of New Jersey Neuroscience Institute

Gregory Przybylski, MD, is the director of neurosurgery at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute at JKF Medical Center in Edison, N.J. He's board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the former president of the North American Spine Society. Dr. Przybylski's research interests are spinal biomechanics, spinal cord injury and clinical outcomes. He's received several awards for his work, including the Hobart Amory Hare Honor Medical Society, Whitaker Foundation Graduate Fellow and Congress of Neurological Surgeons Clinical Fellow.

He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Dr. Przybylski completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He completed several fellowships in spinal surgery, including one at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, one at the Hospital St. Vincent de Paul in Paris, France, one at the Hospital St. Roch in Nice, France, and one at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Dr. Przybylski has worked extensively with spinal procedures, including spinal fusions, and properly diagnosing spinal pain. "There are some things we all agree on: fusion is appropriate in patients with fractures, dislocation, some infections and patients with cancer of the spine," he said. "The controversy surrounds patients with pain of an unknown origin and we assume it's coming from degenerative disc disease."
