Merit Health Wesley hospital in Hattiesburg, Miss., expanded its robotic-assisted surgery system arsenal to include a robotic joint replacement system.
The system helps surgeons pre-plan knee and hip replacement procedures, allowing them to know more and cut less.
"This system is very consistent and reliable in helping us achieve the best results for our patients. It provides a 3D reconstruction of your knee that allows us to create a personalized plan based on each patient's unique anatomy before entering the operating room," Jacob Folse, MD, a fellowship-trained joint specialist, said in a May 23 company press release. "This optimizes the precision of the surgery while decreasing the soft tissue damage, leading to a quicker recovery."
The robotic joint replacement system marks Merit's third orthopedic robotic surgical system and also joins its robot-assisted surgery system for procedures such as hysterectomies, hernia repairs and gallbladder removals.
