Study: 66.5% Spine Specialists Believe Fear of Treatment Keeps Patients Away

A recent survey of North American Spine Society membership discussed why people with back pain go without treatment. According to the report, 66.5 percent of spine specialists surveyed believed that the fear of prospective treatments keep their patients from seeking help. Patients often believe that exercise causes pain, surgery can cure pain completely, they will have to have multiple revision surgeries throughout their lives, there are too many risks, bed rest is the best cure for back pain, back pain is a normal part of aging and if they take pain medication they will become addicted.
