A new study conducted by researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and published in the American Journal of Epidemiology suggests women who take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for two or more days per week have increased risk of hearing loss.
The study examined data from 62,261 women age 31 to 48 years from 1995 to 2009, and 10,012 women self-reported hearing loss. Women who used ibuprofen two to three days per week had 13 percent greater risk of hearing loss than those who used it less than once per week.
Women who used acetaminophen two to three days per week were at 11 percent higher risk for hearing loss than those who used it less than once per week. In both cases, women who used the drugs four to five times per week were at 21 percent increase risk for hearing loss.
