The Leading Physicians of the World will include orthopedic surgeon Niyat I. Ilksen Gurkan, MD, of Cheyenne, Va.-based Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

1. Dr. Gurkan has practiced for more than two decades.
2. Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Gurkan specializes in sports medicine and joint reconstruction.
3. Dr. Gurkan moved to the U.S. after obtaining his medical degree and interning in his native Turkey.
4. He completed his residency and fellowship training at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
