Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Stephen Nicholas of NY Orthopedics

Stephen J. Nicholas, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at New York City-based NY Orthopedics, a practice he founded and currently directs.

Dr. Nicholas specializes in treating sports medicine, knee, hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, foot, ankle, hip injuries and performs joint replacements.

 

He is director of the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma and conducts a great deal of sports medicine and physical therapy research.

 

Dr. Nicholas has served as orthopedic team physician for the New York Jets, New York Islanders and Hempstead, N.Y.-based Hofstra University athletics over the course of his career, and was a member of New York City Sports Commission.

 

A member of the American Orthopaedic Association, Dr. Nicholas is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

 

Dr. Nicholas graduated from Valhalla-based New York Medical College before completing a residency at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery. He then underwent a sports medicine fellowship at New York City-based Lenox Hill Hospital.
