Missy Chamberland, MD, of Gunnison, Colo.-based Chamberland Orthopaedics, plans to retire later this month, according to Gunnison Country Times.

1. Dr. Chamberland has offered sports medicine and trauma care to Gunnison Valley-area patients since 1994.

 

2. Dr. Chamberland cited a diffuse degenerative spine condition causing her constant pain and impacting her ability to perform surgery as the reason for her retirement.

 

3. She has treated an average of 2,000 patients annually over the course of her career.

 

4. She plans to close her practice on April 30, 2017.

 

5. Gunnison Valley Health Chief Executive Rob Santilli said Dr. Chamberland's retirement was "unexpected news for all of us here at the health system."
