For Dr. James Crouse's practice it's is a family affair: 4 key notes

Orthopedic

James Crouse, MD, is taking a leave of absence from Waterloo, Iowa-based clinic, Cedar Valley Medical Specialists, but is leaving the practice in "good hands," The Courier reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. When Dr. Crouse leaves at the end of the year, Roswell Johnston, MD, Todd Johnston, MD, and Benjamin Torrez, MD are taking over. Dr. Roswell Johnston is Dr. Crouse's brother-in-law; Dr. Todd Johnston and Dr. Torrez are the son and the brother-in-law of Dr. Roswell Johnston, respectively.

2. John Walker, MD, started the clinic in the late 1940s. It has stayed a family business for more than 60 years.

3. Dr. Crouse delivered a gift to the home of Dr. Walker in 1978, where he met the physician's daughter Susan. They married, and Dr. Crouse joined the clinic. Then Dr. Roswell Johnston married Dr. Walker's other daughter Martha, and joined the clinic.

The trend continues for a third generation, when Dr. Johnston's son joined the clinic and Dr. Torrez married into the family and the clinic.

4. Dr. Crouse feels he can take a leave of absence "because I have good people to take over," he told The Courier.
