Orthopedic surgeon leader to know: Dr. Sunjay Berdia of The Orthopaedic Center

SunjayBerdia, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at The Orthopaedic Center, a practice with locations in Maryland and Washington, D.C. He specializes in hand, microvascular and upper extremity surgery.

Outside of his clinical practice, Dr. Berdia pursues research inkinematic analysis of wrist motion, wrist instability, carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome and distal radius fractures; he also serves as an adjunct assistant professor at Bethesda, Md.-based Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Prior to his career as an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Berdia worked in the computer industry. While in medical school, he developed artificial intelligence software that determines polyethylene wear of total hip arthroplasties using digitized radiographs.

 

Dr. Berdia earned his medical degree at University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine. He went on to complete an orthopedic residency at New Haven, Conn.-based Yale University and a hand and upper extremity fellowship at Syracuse, N.Y.-based SUNY Upstate Medical University. Today, he holds memberships with American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Society for Surgery of the Hand, among other professional societies.
