Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Clarence Shields of Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic

Clarence L. Shields, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. He is also an assistant clinical professor in the department of orthopedic surgery at University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He is a neutral physician for the National Football League and the former orthopedic consultant to the Los Angeles Rams.

Dr. Shields is an orthopedic consultant to the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey, Calif. He is a past president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and was named "Mr. Sports Medicine" by the AOSSM in 2006. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American College of Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Association of North America.

 

Dr. Shields is the founder of the Team HEAL Foundation, which provides certified athletic trainers and related services to athletes at participating high schools. He has facilitated more than 200 lectures.

 

Dr. Shields earned his medical degree at Creighton University in Omaha. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at LAC+University of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.
