C. Lowry Barnes, MD, is the chairman of the orthopedics department at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He is currently president of Arkansas Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Barnes has previously served as president of Southern Orthopaedic Association and Society for Arthritic Joint Surgery. He is also a professor of orthopedic surgery at UAMS.
Dr. Barnes has a clinical interest in arthritis of the hip and knee, hip and knee replacement and orthopedic injuries. He is well-versed in minimally invasive techniques. He lectures nationally and internationally on total joint replacement surgery. He also conducts research through Hip Knee Arkansas Foundation. Dr. Barnes is currently consulting with Wright Medical, helping design new hip and knee replacement solutions. He was named the Arthritis Foundation Person of the Year in 2000.
Dr. Barnes earned his medical degree from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he also completed his residency. He has completed fellowship training in total joint replacement from Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was also awarded a John Insall Traveling Fellowship.
