Dr. William Jiranek takes office as American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons' president — 5 things to know

During the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons' board of directors meeting, William Jiranek, MD, took office as president of the AAHKS.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Dr. Jiranek is the 26th AAHKS president.

 

2. He serves as the chief of adult reconstruction in the department of orthopedic surgery as well as the chief of musculoskeletal health in the neuro-skeletal center for health and performance at Virginia Commonwealth University Health in Richmond.

 

3. After joining the university in 1992, he helped establish the Orthopedic Research Laboratory's molecular section in 1998. He also helped establish the adult reconstruction fellowship in 2003.

 

4. He is the past president of the Richmond Orthopaedic Club and past president of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society.

 

5. Dr. Jiranek and other joint surgeons in Virginia established The Virginia Joint Registry, a corporation aimed at providing joint replacement surveillance in the state. Dr. Jiranek has been president since 2004.
