A recent study published in The Journal of Arthroplasty showed that patients who underwent total hip resurfacing arthroplasty experienced significant improvements in general health-related quality of life measures six months following surgery.
Researchers included 12 studies with a total of 1,898 patients who underwent total hip resurfacing arthroplasty.
Here are four key points:
1. Researchers found SF-12 significant component scores significantly improved, while mental component scores slightly improved following total hip resurfacing arthroplasty.
2. Results showed a significant improvement in the health utility measurement with the EuroQol-5D.
3. Researchers also found significant improvements in the WOMAC global score, as well as in the WOMAC subscales of pain, stiffness and function.
4. The hip-specific outcome measure and functional status improved postoperatively as well.
