Here are 13 orthopedic surgeons making the news:

Illinois Bone & Joint Institute in Chicago welcomed Brian Weatherford, MD, to its staff. Dr. Weatherford specializes in arthritis of the ankle and post-traumatic conditions of the lower extremity and deformity correction.

 

Donald A. Gajewski, MD, joined Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health. Dr. Gajewski is the recipient of several military awards.

 

Phillip Lahey Jr., MD, was named specialty medical director of the orthopedics program at Holden (Mass.) Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.

 

Kansas-based Cotton-O'Neil welcomed Shaun Steeby, MD, to the medical staff. Dr. Steeby specializes in complex fractures and musculoskeletal injuries.

 

Christopher Elder, MD, joined Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health. He focuses on arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine with a special focus on shoulder, knee and hip surgeries.

 

Milford (Mass.) Regional Medical Center welcomed Mitchell Hardenbrook, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Hardenbrook is an orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive surgery to treat many spinal conditions.

 

Rupesh Tarwala, MD, joined NY Bone and Joint Specialists. Dr. Tarwala specializes in minimally invasive surgery techniques for hip injuries.

 

New Jersey-based RWJ Physician Enterprise welcomed James Tovey, MD, to its medical staff. He focuses on sprains and fractures in addition to performing joint replacements and arthroscopies.

 

Michael Higgins, MD, opened an orthopedic clinic in Dade City, Fla. Dr. Higgins approaches medicine more conservatively and believes patients can receive superior care locally.

 

Hobart, Ind.-based St. Mary Medical added Keith Pitchford, DO, and Jennifer Bayer, MD, to its practice. Dr. Pitchford has been practicing medicine for more than 16 years. Dr. Bayer completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

 

David A. Brown, MD, joined The Center Orthopedic & Neurosurgical Care & Research. Dr. Brown previously administered care at a critical access hospital in Alaska.

 

OrthoAtlanta Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Specialists based in Atlanta added David A. Stokes, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Stokes specializes in knee, shoulder and elbow arthroscopic surgery.
