Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. J.W. Thomas Byrd of Nashville Sports Medicine Center

J.W. Thomas Byrd, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon practicing at Nashville Sports Medicine Center in Tennessee. He has been practicing medicine for more than two decades and specializes in arthroscopic techniques.

He presently serves as the team physician for the Tennessee Titans and has served as physician for the U.S. Olympic Team. Dr. Byrd is a consulting orthopedic surgeon for many professional sport franchises from the NFL, NHL, NBA, WNBA, MLA and the ATP professional tennis tour.

 

He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He completed a sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery fellowship at the American Sports Institute in Birmingham, Ala. Additionally, Dr. Byrd completed a joint replacement and reconstructive surgery fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.
