Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Steven Harwin of Mount Sinai Beth Israel

Steven F. Harwin, MD, FACS, is an attending orthopedic surgeon and chief of adult reconstruction and total joint replacement at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City.  He is an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and director of the Bloodless Total Joint Replacement Surgery Program at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.

After earning his medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, Dr. Harwin completed his internship at Beth Israel Medical Center. He then completed a residency with Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City before completing a traveling fellowship at centers of hip and knee surgery in the United States, the United Kingdom and West Germany.

 

Dr. Harwin is involved with many journals and advisory groups, including serving as the Editor for Orthopaedic Surgery for Surgical Technology International,an Editorial Board member of The Journal of Arthroplasty,  Section Editor of Tips and Techniques for ORTHOPEDICS and is the Associate Editor for Arthroplasty for The Journal of Knee Surgery. He has recently been elected president of the International Dual Mobility Hip Society.  He has authored over 170 peer reviewed articles on various aspects of reconstructive hip and knee surgery.

 

Dr. Harwin has been a principal designer and design team member of several total hip and total knee systems and instruments, including the Kinemax Total Knee Arthroplasty System, the Talon Acetabular Cup, Restoration PS Femoral Prosthesis, the Triathlon Tritanium Cementless Total Knee Arthroplasty System and the MDM dual mobility Total Hip System. Implant designs that Dr. Harwin has contributed to have been implanted in over 2 million patients world-wide.
