J&J orthopedics 3Q sales up 2.7% to $2.3B: 5 key points

Johnson & Johnson's worldwide medical device and diagnostic sales hit $6.6 billion in the third quarter of 2014, a 5.2 percent decrease over the same period last year.


DePuy Synthes is the orthopedic- and spine-focused subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. Here are five things to know about the company's orthopedic and spine sales during the third quarter:

1. The third quarter worldwide orthopedics sales were $2.3 billion, a 2.7 percent increase over the same period for the previous year.

2. Orthopedics sales in the United States reached $1.2 billion, a 3.2 percent increase over the third quarter of 2013. International sales also increased 2 percent to $1.07 billion.

3. For the first nine months of 2014, the orthopedics business reported $7.2 billion in worldwide sales, a 2.6 percent increase over the same period last year.

4. Orthopedics sales in the United States were $3.8 billion for the nine months-end, a 2.4 percent increase over 2013.

5. International sales after nine months hit $3.3 billion, a 2.7 percent increase.
