Practice Management

The Angus Reid Institute surveyed more than 1,500 Canadian patients who underwent orthopedic surgery within the last 10 years. While patients were satisfied with physicians and hospitals, many reported an unreasonable wait time for treatment, the Canada Free Press reports.

Here's what you need to know:

1. More than 20 percent, which estimates to 300,000 Canadians, reported they waited an unreasonable amount of time for treatment.

2. Of those who reported unreasonable wait time, 51 percent waited more than a year for treatment.

3. The Canadian Institute for Health Information's benchmark is six months for orthopedic surgery. A reported 81 percent waited longer than the benchmark.

4. If they had to do it again, 36 percent of patients said they would pay out of pocket in order to speed up the process.

5. Orthopedic surgery patients are split on the value of private surgery clinics with 49 percent saying they are a good thing.
