Hospital for Special Surgery, Stamford Health orthopedics partnership gaining steam: 6 insights

Practice Management

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery and Stamford (Conn.) Health entered a partnership in February to create HSS Orthopedics at Stamford Health, according to Westfair Online.

Here are six insights:

1. Now, the two hospitals are gearing up to move HSS Orthopedics at Stamford Health into the new Stamford Hospital's fifth floor.

2. The collaboration created the hospital's department of orthopedics. Charles "Chip" Cornell, MD, serves as the new department's chair.

3. Since April, HSS Orthopedics at Stamford Health has been located in Stamford Hospital's Tully Health Center.

4. HSS has helped Stamford establish "pre-op optimization," which involves pinpointing a patient's concerns during the initial visit. This process has reduced orthopedic procedures' cancellation rate.

5. The orthopedics department will include 15 surgeons with some focused on outpatient procedures.

6. Initially, the HSS-Stamford Health center will encompass two operating rooms, with plans of expansion to six. The groups expect a total volume of 1,500 cases annually.
