Practice Management

The HHS Office of Inspector General reported the federal government recovered more than $3.3 billion in fraudulent healthcare claims in fiscal year 2016, according to Healthcare DIVE.

Here are three things to know:

1. The report noted this resulted in a return on investment of $5 for every dollar expended.

2. The Health Care Fraud and Abuse Control program, envisioned by HSS and Department of Justice, reclaimed the funds.

3. Additionally, the Medicare Fraud Strike Force jailed 290 defendants in FY 2016, with average jail times of more than 48 months.
