AHA, Federation of American Hospitals report: Hospitals face $165.8B Medicaid cut from ACA repeal

Practice Management

The American Hospital Association and the Federation of American Hospitals released a 41-page new report saying they will fight an ACA repeal as it could have major repercussions for hospitals, The Hill reported.

Here are four things to know:

1. The report said the hospital industry could lose $165.8 billion through Medicaid cuts if the GOP repeals the ACA.

2. The report said hospitals would lose an additional $289.5 billion if the government eliminates ACA payments to hospitals with higher Medicare patients under the Disproportionate Share Hospital program.

3. The report authors did not urge the GOP to protect the ACA, but rather refrain from repealing the health law until the government devises a plan with additional funding for hospitals.

4. Federation of American Hospitals President Chip Kahn said he and other industry leaders are open to working alongside Republicans to "make a soft landing" if officials repeal and replace the health law.
