AMA vows to engage President-elect Donald Trump's administration on healthcare's future: 5 things to know

American Medical Association President Andrew Gurman, MD, released a statement on the association's behalf regarding healthcare reform.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The organization maintained its commitment to healthcare reform that works to improve access for all patients.

 

2. Moving forward with a Republican administration, the AMA plans to actively engage the administration and Congress in conversations about healthcare's direction.

 

3. The AMA plans to continue working to improve health insurance coverage so patients receive timely and high quality care in addition to preventive medications, services and other treatments.

 

4. As healthcare changes, the AMA believes the reform proposal should not take away coverage from any insured Americans.

 

5. Dr. Gurman said legislators can work to get rid of "excessive regulatory burdens" for physicians.
